It’s so exciting registering for items in anticipation for your new little one! I can remember when my husband and I went to the store and we walked through the store scanning the items we thought we needed most. I can still hear my husband in my head as he said, “do we really need that?” Of course, I thought we needed everything. Four and a half years later, some of that stuff is still in boxes!
While some of the stuff we had on our registry can now be located on eBay, there are a number of other items we’ve used over and over again that I wish someone would have told me to put on my baby wish list. So I’m doing you the favor I wish someone had done for me. Here are the 6 things I wish I had put on my registry that I use all the time.
Small Carpet Cleaner
My recommendation is the Bissell 1400B Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Earth-Friendly Deep Cleaner. It’s easy to use, doesn’t take up too much storage room, and you can bring it anywhere in the house quickly. It’s great for cleaning up milk or juice spills, spaghetti sauce, or anything else that can make your carpet look like children live in your house. It retails for around $80.
Battery Operated Nasal Aspirator
When I asked a lot of my mommy friends for the most important thing to make sure I had, most of them said a nasal aspirator. Thank goodness some really smart person designed one that is battery operated! Ask anyone who has had to use one when their child was sick. Most kids don’t like it. In fact, the usually hate it, but it’s a necessary process when they’re sick. I use the Graco Nasal Clear Nasal Aspirator and it is wonderful. It retails for about $20.
You’ll learn the importance of having a hand-held vacuum the first time you give your child Cheerios or a cookie. Give them something little or that can be crushed into crumbs and it will get everywhere! You could take your regular vacuum out 4 times a day or you could just use a hand-held vacuum like a Black & Decker Dustbuster. They vary in price from about $20 to $85.
A Really Good Neck Pillow
Never underestimate the power of a really good neck pillow! Whether you’re nursing or up late with your child, you’ll want to be comfortable. A good neck pillow will give you the comfort you need while you comfort your child. Now I’m very sad to say that my favorite neck pillow seems to no longer be available. I love my Felicity Huffman Heads Up Pillow which used to be carried at Bed Bath & Beyond, but I haven’t been able to find one anywhere. The Perfect Body Pillow
This is something you should really go out and get when you find out you’re pregnant, but I still use mine after pregnancy. The Snoogle is my favorite body pillow. I wasn’t a believer in buying a pillow that cost over $40 until my husband bought me one while I was 5 months pregnant. I slept well for the first time in months! The Snoogle retails for $40-$50. They also have decorative pillowcases available.
The little hooded baby towels are great when your little one is small enough to bath in your sink, but they’re going to grow and those little towels won’t work for long. I’ve found that regular large or bath sheet size towels don’t even seem to do the trick as they get older. Beach towels, however, are the perfect length and width to use for your growing child. So take a look at some beach towels and add them to your gift registry.
