More Must-Haves For Your Baby Registry Wish List

My best friend and her husband are expecting their first child, and these are incredibly exciting times for them.  She’s been asking everyone for their recommendations on baby items to add to her list.  She refers to my last post on the subject which made me think that I should probably make an update to my last set of must-haves.

Rechargeable Batteries & Recharging Station

This is a must-have if you have a battery operated anything for your new little one: swing, bouncer seat, mobile, etc.  You can go the “greener” route and get rechargeable batteries and a charging station, or you could just register for dozens of batteries.  Your choice!

Bright Starts Baby’s Play Place Mat

The Bright Starts Baby’s Play Place Mat is what I used when I had my second child, and I wish I had it with my first.  It’s very durable, and it was great when establishing play boundaries between my two boys.  You can fold the sides up or put them down.  Either way, it’s hours of fun for your little one!  It’s also really great for tummy time.

Washcloths Washcloths Washcloths!

You can never have enough washcloths.  They’re not only for bath time.  You can use them at meal time, too.  Or, in a pinch, i can be a great burp cloth.

Big Inflatable Ducky Tub

I have one of those fancy baby tubs with the little shower which is great unless you have a giant as a baby like I did.  I may be short, but my oldest boy has always been very long and didn’t fit in the little baby tub for too long.  So I picked up the Munchkin White Hot Inflatable Duck Tub.  We used it so much that we actually wore it out!  What’s really nice about this simple tub is that it has a suction cup on it so you can store it by sticking it to your shower wall.

Battery Operated Mobile

This was truly a life saver when it came to bed time.  I was partial to the Fisher Price Rainforest Peek-A-Boo Leaves Musical Mobile, but as far as I’m concerned, any battery operated mobile is tops in my book.  It lasts just long enough for your baby to fall asleep.

Temporal Scan Thermometer

I really like the Thermal Scan Thermometer.  It’s quick and easy and you can even take your child’s temperature while they sleep.  My kids think it’s so neat that when the sick child gets his temperature taken, the healthy one wants me to take his, too.

Bébésounds Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor

I have to admit, this is a recommendation from a friend of mine, but if I was having a baby, this would be on my registry.  The Bébésounds Angelcare Deluxe Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor is pretty awesome.  Not only is it a traditional baby monitor, but it also detects if there’s been no movement from your baby – even breath movement – and will alert you.  The friend that recommended this had a premature baby, and she said that this monitor gave her peace of mind at night.

A Good Medicine Syringe

Okay, you’re probably thinking, “aren’t all medicine syringes the same?”  I am here to tell you that no, they are not.  The big medicine droppers lose their suction after a few uses, and do even worse after a few cleanings in the dish washer (even if they say that they’re dishwasher safe).  You want to look for one that looks like the syringe in the Baby Child Medicine Set spoon dropper syringe.  I think the one I found was in the adult medicine section.  The suction to draw up the medicine works better, and they seem to be much more durable.  For just a couple dollars, you can’t go wrong.

A Phone Card

I cannot stress to you how our phone card came in handy when my husband and I were in the hospital having our children.  We had no cell service when we were in the hospital, so we had no choice but to use the hospital phone.  Instead of getting billed for the calls, we used our phone carGiftster’s sister company, ZapTel.com, sells prepaid phone cards.  I personally used the Flying Colors card because of all its features.  It has a speed dial function where I loaded all the numbers of people I knew I’d need to contact when we were in the hospital so all I had to do was print out the card and I was ready to go.
