One of the great things about Giftster is that you can list anything you’d like on it.  Why not make a list of the family recipes you’d like to have for your own collection?  It’s a great gift idea and you can pass it down to other generations.I personally come from a large extended family and there are dozens of incredible dishes that I’ve enjoyed over the years.  When my husband and I got married, my parents made me a recipe book that’s full of great recipes, including my great-grandma’s raviolis.  However, certain recipes, like my Aunt Mary Lou’s Seven Layer Salad and my Aunt Elaine’s Kolacky Cookies, are missing in action so these are two items on my list.

I think a family recipe book like this is a great idea for anyone in any family.  It’s especially wonderful as a wedding gift, but can be asked for by anyone.

And the best part – IT’S FREE!

Okay, so it may cost you at a minimum your time, a piece of paper, and some pen or printer ink, but it’s just about as close to free as you can get.  And it’s a gift full of thought.

If you think about it, recipes really tell a family history.  In my case, I truly treasure my great-grandmother’s recipes.  She grew up in Sicily and was taught to cook by her grandmother, my great-great-great-grandmother.  It was my great-grandmother’s chore to get up every morning and walk in to town to bake bread for the day.  When I read through her bread recipe, I think about all the days she made bread for her family and how I can pass this little piece of her on to my kids.
