5 ways to prepare for holiday gift giving

I know what you’re thinking. “Now? You want me to start thinking about Christmas shopping NOW?! Halloween was just a couple days ago!”

But stay with me. Now is the right time to at least do these few things to make gift giving a little easier over the next couple months.

Here are 5 easy things you can do today to get your 2014 holiday wish list started and it won’t take you more than about 10 minutes.

1) Create a wish list for 2014

Already have your wish list? Great! You’re ahead of the game. Skip to #2.

If you haven’t already, create a wish list. You don’t have to have it fully filled out. Maybe start with a couple of your favorite things or those couple things you’d really really like. You can always add more later.

2) Archive items you’ve received with the “I Got This” button

Take a quick look at your wish list and press the “I Got This” button to move items you’ve received onto your archive list. Or, if you’re new to Giftster, continue on to #3.

3) Update your gift preferences

If you haven’t added your gift preferences, take a minute to fill it out. If you have, what’s changed since last year? Make sure your preferences are up to date in case a gift giver decides to go off-list.

4) List everyone you need to shop for

Make a master list of everyone you need to give a gift to this holiday. Don’t forget to include smaller presents like teacher gifts, gifts for those who provide a service to you, and other people you’d like to give a little token of appreciation. Ideally, those in your family you’ll need to shop for should be in your group. If they’re not, send them an invite to create a wish list.

5) Start thinking about your gift giving budget

Not something you need to have set in stone at this point, but have an idea of an amount you’d like your shopping not to exceed.

Later this week, I’ll give you additional tips on how to expand on these steps. With the help of Giftster, your holiday shopping will be done quickly so you can kick back, relax and enjoy the season.
